Spike was seated in the kitchen with Dawn, reading the newspaper, and saw her stir the fork idly in her plate.
“Don’t play with your food. Eat,” he said.
“I’m not hungry.”
“I don’t care. Pick up a forkful, put it in your mouth, chew, swallow, repeat. Take it as an exercise for your facial muscles.”
“You don’t have to stay. I can tell you’re eager to go.”
“I’m not,” he said dryly.
“It’s okay, Spike, I know the drill. Everybody leaves me. My father, mom, Buffy. It’s only a matter of time before you do that too,” she said.
