A pact with a devil wasn't transferrable through time. Not backwards, anyway. The pact hadn't happened yet and the new reality would overwrite the old.
A promise, though, one made from the heart? That was a different matter entirely, a very old, powerful magic with a reputation for transcending every possible boundary.
It was a crush on a charismatic older man, her friend had told her, either that or pity for a fellow underdog despite his reputation for being very manipulative and dangerous. But she had met people like that before, so why couldn't she forget it this time round?
