"I really don’t see that this is necessary,” the civil servant protested.  “I’ve no idea who you think you are and what this is all about.”

“We just have a few questions for you,” Adam Carter said.  “Please take a seat.”

The man continued to stand, but Lucas pulled out a chair and said, “Here, please.”

The civil servant grumbled, but finally obliged, pulling a face when he realised he was sitting with his back to the radiator.

When Ros entered the room, Lucas grinned and said quietly, “He’s all yours.  And we’ve put him in the literal hot seat.”
