Summary: He Xuan feels nothing but scorn for heaven.

He Xuan feels nothing but scorn for heaven; beneath its golden palaces and eternal sunlight, it is rotten to the core. The gods are arrogant and complacent, taking their lofty position for granted. They think themselves invincible.

He Xuan remembers long nights of study in a drafty room, long days of toil to earn a pittance. He remembers—he feels—the gnawing of hunger in his belly.

The gods in heaven have forgotten the labor, the pain, and the precariousness of mortal life. He Xuan—Black Water Sinking Ships—will remind them.

He watches, unsmiling, and feeds on his grievances.
