"Let go, blasted cat,” John exclaimed.

Tilly, Stanley Hopkins’ cat, temporarily resident at 221B while Stanley was following up some details for a case in Glasgow, ignored John’s command and continued to tug at the sock.

“I need to go to work,” John said, pulling back.

“Why don’t you just wear different socks?” Sherlock asked.

“Because I’ve already got one on and I’m not being beaten by a cat.”

Tilly took advantage of John turning to look at Sherlock and gave an extra strong tug.  The sock slipped out of John’s fingers and made off with it.

“You were saying?”
