Buffy was seated under a tree, staring at the darkening horizon when Dawn walked up to her, dangling a blanket in front of her face.
“If you insist on doing your sulking outside, at least take this. England is chilly,” she said, sitting beside Buffy wrapped in her own quilt. “I miss California.”
“Not sulking,” said Buffy, taking the blanket. “Just avoiding Giles’s great-aunts. They always try to force feed me their chocolate pudding.”
“Because they sense you’re distant.”
“I’m alright, Dawn.”
“No, you aren’t. It’s about Spike, isn’t it? Talk to me.”
“There’s nothing to say, Dawnie. He’s gone.”
