“Consider your history,” the Queen said, as she pointed to the paintings of various heroes of the royal line. “This is what you have to live up to.”
The Prince dutifully looked at the portraits, and wondered what had happened to those showing the kings and queens who it would seem hadn’t passed the Queen’s standards of ‘being suitable examples’. Presumably they were stored somewhere, ready to be re-instated by another monarch with different views. The final portrait on view was that of his father, a failure in his wife’s eyes, but one she could hardly hide away.
“Yes, mother.”
