The butler admitted Poirot and Hastings into the apartment and asked them to wait in the library, as his master would be with them shortly.  Poirot took the opportunity to look at the paintings which adorned the library walls.

“I do not care for this modern art,” he said.  “It is impossible to ascertain what it is supposed to represent.”

“But it is very colourful,” Hastings replied.

“If I wanted colour on my walls, I would send Georges to buy some small pots of paint and let him employ his skills directly on them.  It would have the same effect.”

And the twist is that Georges is a leading avante garde artist in his spare time (when he's not pressing Poirot's trousers or refilling the moustache wax jar)!
