The Inko Buddha statue shines a glorious gold in the sun. Around the giant parakeet effigy, birds of bright coloured plumage flock restlessly, calling out in a voice that sounds almost human, like a warning.
The rhythm matches the chanting of the devotees thronging the statue.
Sleeping within the statue, Odeo remembers when there were more birds, every colour of the rainbow, and many more humans. Once, the entirety of Bablyonia feared Odeo as a vengeful God to be placated. Now, he only has the underhand cult.
The strange voice that woke him up, however, promised him more, in time.
