“No, no, you’re being too rough again!” Rangi scolds as she reforms the rough grip of Kyoshi’s gigantic hands on the paintbrush tipped in a rainbow of colors against the canvas in front of them; Kyoshi’s cheeks warm at how soft Rangi’s fingers are against the brawniness of her own, like a flower’s petals on hard stone.

“Sorry, Rangi, I forget my strength, sometimes.”

Rangi lies her head against Kyoshi’s back, replying, “Yeah, yeah, just be more careful, or that’ll be the fourth brush you’ve broken just this week.”

“Yes, Rangi. My bad.”

Kyoshi smiles, and Rangi resumes her teaching.
