Buffy paused the “Pride and Prejudice” stream, turning to Spike.
“Were you an earl or duke in your human time?”
He frowned. “My family was wealthy, but we weren’t members of the nobility. Why?”
“I was wondering if you ever attended one of those… balls,” she said, gesturing to the still frame on their TV.
“Unfortunately I did,” he grumbled.
“Were you betrothed?”
“Only to you, darling. Twice.”
She beamed. “So I married into a rich English family?”
“You married me. My uncle took possession of our assets when my mum and I disappeared.”
“Luckily you are all I need.”
