A tear ran down his cheek and splashed onto the doll. He almost fell off his bed when his late mother's handmade plush fairy sprang to its feet and bounced towards him, dancing a little jig. The lantern on its nose, now real and lit, swayed from side to side, its flame rippling. 

 

He had insisted the story about Drippy coming to life was for babies, that he was old enough for true stories now. Still, he felt like an infant again, vulnerable against an uncaring world. Like he really needed the miracles of true magic now more than ever.

Oh, that's heartbreaking. The reference to his late mother. Ouch!

Ni no Kuni is SO harsh on its characters for a game that feels like its trying to have a very young target audience. Also surprisingly difficult battles. It's not something i would leave out of a kid's game but I really think they should content warn for it.
