When he’d met Elsie he’d been enchanted by her.  She’d come to work in the warehouse where he was employed and was the prettiest girl in the building.  They had married four months later, against family advice that it was too soon, they were too young.  Slowly the enchantment faded.  The warehouse put them on short hours.  Elsie found another job which helped with their finances but meant she was away longer each day.  The allure of the pub was strong.  Now he was holding his infant daughter in his arms for the first time; he was enchanted once again.
