As he reaches up for the lever, opening the valve for the orange-yellow of molten metal to pour forth from the crucible, he feels the heat like something physical. Feels sweat sliding trails down his skin, dripping off him to hit the sides of the mold and sizzle into steam; feels his breath come a little heavier.
Karl watches the mold fill and is already envisioning the pieces slotting into place. A weapon, first. Something undeniable in power. Something to hold between himself and Alcina’s claws; Mother’s faux-parental orders.
Something to hold as a reminder while he bides his time.
