It had been very quiet for the last few days and Holmes was growing increasingly irritable at the lack of interesting cases. After a long wet spell, we had finally had some sunny weather, and Holmes was sharing his opinion at considerable length that the criminals were outside enjoying the weather and other equally fanciful notions.

Fortunately, at the moment when I was about to throw a slipper at Holmes, Mrs Hudson appeared to announce a new client. I looked at her as my saviour, a role she would not have appreciated, but I was indeed very grateful to her.
