In every generation there is a Chosen One. She alone will stand against… yadda yadda yadda.
How often have I heard this speech since I’ve been called? Frankly, more than I care to count. Its pompous tone especially has always grated me. What this speech omits, however, is how every new Slayer inevitably inherits the burden carried by the ones who came—and died—before her.
It’s a burden made of tears, blood, loss, sacrifices. And loneliness. I’d never truly felt the weight of that until I was forced to seek shelter in a stranger’s house. Cold and alone. The Slayer’s destiny.
