The air feels strange in this place. Not just against her skin, but when she inhales. It feels wet almost, like she might be breathing underwater.
But maybe that’s just the cold.
Rose tugs the cuffs of her father’s jacket down over her fingers, gripping the worn-soft fabric and thinking, like she used to as a child, that it’s like an embrace. It’s like he’s there with her.
She exhales, a little unsteady, but doesn’t stop. She keeps going because he would. Because he did. And because it still means something to her, to feel like she’s her father’s daughter.
