“The assistant in that high class bakery is definitely passing messages on,” Lucas said.  “Ruskin passed him a note as he was accepting his purchases, and then I saw Medhurst go into the shop after I’d left and make a point of being served by that particular assistant.”

“Anything else?”

“I suspect he’s the only assistant involved, although it’s quite possible some of the management are.  Oh, and the doughnuts are definitely overrated; I can buy a bag of five doughnuts for hardly more than one from that baker’s, and they taste just as good.”
