“Poirot!” Inspector Japp exclaimed, “You’re slipping!”

“No, Inspector, I am standing perfectly still,” Hercule Poirot replied.

“I was sure you would have straightened up all the ornaments and photographs on that mantelpiece.  It’s not like you to leave them crooked.”

“But, my dear Japp, have you not observed that they are not crooked, but deliberately placed like that.”

“What?”

“All, except for one photograph, are placed at exactly the same angle, facing in one direction.  The photograph faces the other way.  Do you not think this might be a clue?”

“You mean?”

“Consider who is depicted in the photograph.”

 “Right!”
