Summary: Boromir leaves Minas Tirith to seek the Sword That Was Broken.


They walked to the Great Gate in silence, save for the horse’s hooves clacking against pavement and the creak of harness-leather. Faramir held back the words on his tongue that even now would urge Boromir to stay. This quest was to serve Gondor, and their father’s will could not be gainsaid.

Boromir leaned down in the saddle, giving Faramir a strong handclasp of farewell along with his familiar affectionate smile. Then he straightened, blew a long blast on his horn that echoed from the white walls, and rode though the Gate. The horn’s echoes and his hoofbeats died away together.
