In the sunlight, the golem can hardly remember the impulse that made it act so wildly. The air is bright and sweet. Outside the ghetto gates, children are dancing with flowers.
Someone gave the golem a rose once, beautiful and fragrant. It wants to see more flowers. The golem pushes the gates until they break open. To its disappointment, the children scatter.
No, one child stays! She sees the golem without fear or hatred. The golem picks her up very carefully.
When the child curiously plucks the life-giving amulet from its breast, the golem falls back into sleep, still smiling.
