Miss Marple wasn't one for keeping up with fashion anymore. Indeed, she was inclined to agree with her friend Dolly Bantry, on the ridiculousness of some of the current fashions, but it didn't mean she wasn't aware of them. So, when the young assistant at the baker's started wearing outfits which were clearly of the latest fashion, she had two thoughts. One was there was a young man involved, and secondly was to question how the assistant could afford to buy several fashionable outfits, when most of the local girls managed just one for wearing to dances on Saturday nights.
