Summary: Old Man Willow catches a hobbit.


The Great Willow hummed with satisfaction. He had caught one of the two-footed interlopers and sung it to sleep, and now it was his to consume at his leisure. He opened one of the crevices in his ancient trunk and swallowed the creature in one gulp, taking it into the close darkness inside.

When the creature awoke, it wailed and yelled. Then it banged on the inside of his trunk with its hands and feet. The Great Willow laughed softly, rustling his slender leaves.

The blows grew weaker and less frequent. At last they stopped and there was only silence.
