Glancing at the alarm clock after a nearly restless night, Spike stirred and hopped out of bed. Buffy was sound asleep, so he tiptoed downstairs, barefoot, and careful not to make too much noise, he started to work on his surprise anniversary breakfast.
While the drip coffee maker filled up a fresh pot of Buffy’s favorite brew, Spike opened the fridge to retrieve the juice carton and a container he’d hidden behind his supply of pig’s blood.
He poured a glass of orange juice and opened the container with homemade cookies, courtesy of Dawn, and set them on a plate.
He arranged everything on a tray, picked a rose from a flower bouquet he’d had delivered the previous day, and took it upstairs where Buffy was still sleeping peacefully.
She loved having breakfast in bed and Spike loved to pamper her whenever he had an excuse to do so. He knew she’d get all huffy and end up saying that he didn’t need to make such a fuss over her, but she’d do so with an unmistakable beam in her eyes.
Besides, they were celebrating their second anniversary, so he had every right to play the doting husband, didn’t he?
