“Da-ge?” A tentative voice came from the door of his room.

Mingjue blinked in the dimness and sat up in bed. “A-Sang? What is it?”

His brother’s small form pattered closer. “I had a nightmare.”

Mingjue began to answer, but hesitated. Their father would tell him to send Huaisang back to his own bed in spite of his childish fears, that indulging him too much would make him weak.

As if in answer to his thoughts, Huaisang’s voice became even more pitiful, as if he were on the verge of tears. “Daaaaaa-geeeeee?”

Mingjue sighed and lifted the covers. “Come here.”
