Buffy made herself walk into Spike’s crypt, but lingered between the door and the hole in the ground that led to the lower level.
Fleeting images of his bruised face crowded her memories of that night in the alley, making her stomach twist with a pang of guilt. For a second she considered running away, unsure if she could handle looking at the damage she had caused. Even with a vampire’s quick healing, Spike was surely still wounded, probably looking worse than he had right after the beating.
But she wouldn’t run. Inhaling deeply, she prepared to face her responsibilities.
