Sachiko is not stupid. She is not naive. She is aware that Kira’s disappearance dovetails with the date those officers came to her door, hands clasped, and informed her that her son would not come home for New Years ever again.
Light was a good boy. He was kind. He loved his father and his sister and, all things notwithstanding, he simply would not do to them what Kira did.
Still, in the back of her mind —
No. She washes the dishes; she goes for long walks that make her muscles ache. She knows her son. She has no doubts.
