Sometimes when I dream, I am a different Patroclus. One who is fierce, a soldier, fighting at Achilles's side, as much his equal as one can be. I lead the Myrmidons beside him, or in his place when necessary. I am respected, beloved, by our men, not left behind at camp, teased for doing woman's work and warming Achilles's bed.

It should be strange, being this me who is not me, and yet it is not. It's like a version of myself I've forgotten, slowly coming back each time - until, some nights, it's hard to tell which Patroclus is real.

Thank you! I have strong feelings about how Patroclus is adapted in Song of Achilles, and this was a little way of exorcising some of those. XD
