Title: First Smile
Fandom: The Iliad
Characters/Ship: past Achilles/Patroclus, (pre?) Achilles/Antilochus
Rating: PG
The joke is something silly and offhand Antilochus forgets as soon as he’s said it. He’s stayed by Achilles’s side as much as he can since Patroclus, and he fills the silence with quips sometimes, hoping to make the deeply grieving man smile. It never works.
It’s never worked before. But today Achilles lets out a little humored breath and Antilochus turns with wide eyes to see a flash of upturned lips before the expression disappears behind surprise - and then withers into guilt.
“Don’t feel bad,” Antilochus says softy, reaching to cup his cheek. “He would want this for you.”
