The Ferret was looking extremely satisfied with himself.
"What have you done?" Aemelia Vole asked suspiciously.
"I have written the perfect verse for whenever it's someone's birthday and I didn't know in time to compose them a particular poem of their own. This one will be just right for anyone anywhere. Would you all like to hear it?"
He ignored Aemelia's vehement 'no' even though it was echoed by Mouselet and Poley, and promptly launched into his masterpiece.
