Spike stumbled through the trees, half drunk, muttering nonsense under his breath, and he stopped before the grave, frowning at the cold gray stone.
His hands trembled as he fished a crumpled sheet of paper from his pocket.
“I wrote you a eulogy,” he slurred, voice hoarse, eyes glassy. “But I know that words are nothing more than empty vessels…” he muttered, shaking.
Then, in a sudden fit of rage, he growled and kicked a nearby rock, striking it hard.
“Bollocks!” he cursed, clutching his toe.
He sank to the ground, sobbing, the weight of loss and guilt crushing him.
