When the door closed behind Francesco, Viola knew it wasn’t an escape. It was fear.
And she stayed there, staring at the empty space like a fool, wondering why she’d ever let herself hope. But the damage was done: Francesco had messed up her heart without even realizing it, and now she’d have to put the pieces back together.
Neutrality, she told herself. One breath at a time.
But deep down she knew the truth: the desire and intense feeling that had swept her away, the dizziness in her stomach… were the kind that only happened once in a lifetime.
