drabble_zone. Using Challenges #356: Double/Triple Drabbles; 186: Quote XI; 197: Alias; 196: Secret; 192: Deception; 191: Disguise; 189: Partner; 477: Elegant; 473: Counterfeit; 183: Surrender; 159: Spy; 152: Capture; 151: Poison; 137: Escape; 449: Message; 138: Pressure; and 267: Enemy.
Always try to remember your cover story
And the secrets that you must try to keep
Keep up the deception, and the sly alias
Or you might be poisoned in your sleep
The pressure is on when you are a spy
With your enemies pounding at every door
There is no easy escape if you should happen to fail
To heed harsh perils that you shouldn’t ignore
Do not trust a partner who knows your disguise
Their trustworthiness might prove counterfeit
And they’ll sell you out to be captured fast
To surrender they’ll refuse to wait
If you think that there’s glamor in that line of work
Then my message will never prove clear
Elegant you might think yourself; you’re mortal still
And life is, to one and all, very dear
The mission is crucial, the most important thing
So beware of the kiss, and of the too sweet wine
Know that every seduction’s just a ploy
Between life and death, there’s such a slim line
Now remember these words, and, I beg, take heed
To each that I say, to every last one
Or heavy is the price you’ll have to pay
When you find yourself under the gun
