The world went on.

The sun kept rising every morning, and setting every night, as if nothing had changed.

People carried on with their busy lives, as if nothing had happened.

The world went on without her, as if she wasn’t the very reason it still existed.

Spike had tried forgetting. He’d tried whiskey, patrols, fights he didn’t need to pick. But none of it bloody worked. Because every time he closed his eyes, he remembered her.

He remembered the promise he’d made. Reminded himself he had to keep it.

The world went on… as simple and cruel as that.
