Dr Watson was reading the local paper. Suddenly he called out, "Holmes, you need to pay the rent this minute."
"Why?"
"Listen to this advertisement in the paper: 'Patient landlady seeks tenants for respectable rooms in house in Baker Street. Quiet gentlemen of suitable occupation only. Current tenants should be leaving at the end of this week. References essential.'"
"It could be anywhere," Holmes commented.
"But not saying apply to Box 221B!"
"I don't know why Mrs Hudson insists on going to such extremes."
"Perhaps because she thinks you pay more attention to the small advertisements than to her bill!"
"Why?"
