The line between success and failure is fragile.  The need to be the epitome of Englishness, yet reliant on the work of a German, an Austrian and a Pole; one false step and the whole edifice would come crashing down.  Without the abilities, and the egos, of the men in charge nothing would have been achieved, but their very natures meant relationships between them would always be fraught.

And at the top, one man, apparently in charge, yet his own emotional state so fragile, he could not even accept his wife’s death but preferred to imagine she would be back.
