Notes: Content warning for dying child? Character I have not written in a long, long time. Unedited except for rewording to make a sentence or two shorter.
One daughter on a ventilator, in ICU; she woke at times to write things that made no sense and faded back out again. The other, inconsolable and refusing to interact, crying when addressed; she refused to sleep with an insistent fear she would forget to breathe. Her son, unable to cope, leaving the state to get away. Her husband was there, but they were split between the girls -- ships passing in the night, for how often they saw each other.
They left notes. Fingers touched in the doorway.
It had only been a lazy eye.
How had it become this?
