Although the years had passed, and the worst of the pain had been numbed, there were certain dates which still grieved Watson.  The date of her death was one, her birthday, naturally, was another, and the third was the date they had met, which he had faithfully recorded in the story he entitled The Sign of the Four.  Even now, resting heavily on his stick, and pausing to get his breath on the journey across the graveyard, he would make his way to lay flowers at her grave.  His only comfort that Holmes would be waiting at the cemetery’s entrance.
