Dr Watson experienced a jolt of déjà vu as he entered 221B. There was another square of ruby-coloured cloth on the table, and once more Holmes was groaning. It was the same scene as a few days before, when a violent client had attacked Holmes before departing, leaving behind the cloth in which he had hidden the stolen watch.
Fortunately, when the cloth moved Watson realised Aemelia Vole was about to start work on the Ferret’s replacement waistcoat. And Holmes having forgotten turning the rug around that morning, and had tripped over it. The doctor gave a sigh of relief.
