It hit Claudio’s pride to think Hero had been kissing another man on the eve of their wedding.  She should have had no thought but of him.  Even though she denied it, he could not have been mistaken.  He knew what he had seen, and she had no right to contradict him.  It mattered not that he had been blinded by jealousy before, when Don Pedro had wooed Hero on his behalf.  He was not going to question his position.  Even though his rejection, in so public a fashion, had contributed to her death, he would never admit any fault.
