“I despair of you!”  His father’s angry words echoed in Lucas’ head.  If he despaired of him as a teenager, not all that different from many boys of his age, what would he think of his son now?  He would have been appalled to think Lucas had spent eight years in a Russian jail, no matter the reason.

For a brief moment on his return Lucas had thought of going back to see his family, but the knowledge of the rejection he would face was sufficient to dismiss that thought from his mind.

He would face his own despair alone.

Lucas! I miss Lucas. I hated what they did with him (although arguably it wouldn't be Spooks if they weren't being horribly cruel to favourite characters!)
