When misery makes broken dolls of all
and buries limbs for scavengers to find,
When bubble boats all drown in bathtub squall
When ruthless cruelty makes skittish hind
and stag of once-bold, stalwart, clay-carved beasts
When twig-snap, leaf-crack, shadow-fears fast bind
When horror readies lavish harvest feasts
and scatters rubies for to snare hooved game
When peels of sorrow rise like leaven yeasts
When eldritch prisoners forsake their posts
in search of thoughts and minds and souls for food
When phantasmagorical joy roasts
When chaos reigns, one’s left but to conclude:
the Great Old Ones are in a playful mood.
