More and more often, Gaspar found himself sighing sadly and shaking his head whenever one of them left through a portal, still convinced that their quest made sense, could be easily put right, was happening in a logical order. Still anything but confused; still seeing anything but nonsense.
With Magus it was especially difficult. Or Janus, or Magil, or whoever the hell he was these days. Schala, too, and sometimes Lucca.
"At least with Lavos you knew what you were doing," he remarked to Spekkio, "Destroy it or be destroyed. This mess..."
For all he knew, he was dreaming everything.
